The 1990s were a particularly successful decade for the University of Florida Gators and 1995 was one of their best teams of all time.

The 1995 Florida Gators were coached by legendary football coach Steve Spurrier. Spurrier was a great quarterback for the Gators in the 1960s and had returned to coach the team to glory. This was his sixth year at the helm of the Gators. They were coming off of a 10-2-1 year in which they won the SEC championship. They had lost in the Sugar Bowl the previous year to the arch rival Florida State Seminoles. They had also tied the Seminoles during the regular season that year.

They delivered early in the season by dominating games right off the bat dominating games with huge margins of victory. Their first challenge of the year came in week 6 against Auburn. They still won that game by 11 points. They later went on to cruise through the regular season and then beat the Arkansas Razorbacks 34-3 in the SEC championship game.

Their only loss of the season came in the Fiesta Bowl against the 1 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers. This was essentially the NCAA championship game as these were the two top ranked teams in the nation at the time. They lost to Nebraska handily 62-24 in the championship game capping an otherwise successful season with a devastating loss.Take a look here to learn more: Preseason College Football Rankings 2011: Ranking the Florida Gators’ Opponents
